Greener Energy for Communities
ABC Stateline NSW - www.abc.net.au/news
Many councils are looking at turning their community's household and industrial waste into their own electricity by using biomass gas plants. ABC's Stateline NSW investigates.
- a powerful "green" fuel source
GSE Bio-Coal is produced by the conversion of renewable biomass feed stock to a high value char product which can be used in conventional electricity generation assets either directly or in co-firing situations. The char is produced through environmentally responsible gasification processing in GSE WtE stations being developed throughout the world.
There are numerous feedstocks used in the production of GSE Bio-Coal. Through their use the world can enjoy genuine assitance in the reduction of greenhouse gases that polute our atmosphere. Our patented production processes produce high quality GSE Bio-Coal from biomass feed stock resources including:
Municipal Solid Waste
Green WasteOrganic Kitchen WasteHousehold WastePlastics PaperCardboard
When the feed stock is processed at a GSE WtE station, the resulting bio-char output comes in one of two forms – Lump Char and Fine Char.
Lump Char Fine Char
(approximately 5mm to 20mm in diameter) (a finer char up to 5mm in diameter)
Depending on the biomass or feedstock used, this charred product typically has a very high calorific value and thus excellent crecentials for use in power generation. GSE Bio-Char product samples produced from Timber Woodchip and MSW feed stocks at the WtE testing facility in Newcastle, Australia, have returned excellent results. Current testing shows our Bio-Coal is an excellent fuel source with high calorific values.
The high calorific values shown in the table above are comparable to much of the coal used in power stations. GSE’s Bio-Char products are produced in a ZERO NET CARBON EMISSION process providing another genuine benefit for our people and our planet. The end users of our GSE Bio-Coal will be proud to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas and carbon to the atmosphere when utilising GSE Bio-Coal in their existing operations.
GS Energy is actively seeking to establish partnerships with electricity generators for the use of GSE Bio-Coal in their existing power generation operations.
Benefits include:
Excellent calorific fuels that can assist in reducing a stations overall carbon emissions, where co-firedPotential carbon tax savingsPromoting the clean-energy industry and jobsAbility to promote your use of envirometally friendly alternatives

Once mechanically sorted, the Lump Char produced is stockpiled as natural smokeless GSE Lump-Char ready for transport while the Fine Char will be prilled. The Prilled Fine Char is then provided along with Lump Char as a high calorific value fuel that can be used in coventional power generation stations either directly or in co-firing situations.
